Rigid profiles—windows, doors, edge banding, moldings—compete for line speed and for maintaining their color and whiteness after years of sun and rain. Flexible profiles—seals, gaskets, bathroom and drainage fixtures, hoses—rely on flexibility and, in many cases, on preventing mold growth due to humidity. Each product family requires its own specific set of additives.

It uses a resin with a higher K-value (higher molecular weight) than that of the siding, which is more difficult to fuse, and compensates with an additive package designed to maintain line speed. The output, however, is determined by the apparent density of the mix and the filler level of the formula.

In rigid profile foaming, the processing aid plays a role as crucial as the foaming agent itself: it maintains melt strength and stabilizes the gas cells, allowing for lower densities with a uniform cell structure. Without this support, the cells collapse or open up, and the profile loses both the cost savings and the acoustic performance that were desired. Therefore, the foaming agent is formulated as a system—foaming agent, activator, and processing aid—and not as an isolated additive.

An unsuitable impact modifier dulls the color. Recommendation: The correct impact modifier depends on whether the profile is colored/crystal or opaque/matte; our lubricants also support gloss. We'll guide you on the system for your finish.
Benzophenone-type UV absorbers may turn yellow when zinc chloride (from the mixed stabilizers) is present. Recommendation: Combine the UV absorber with antioxidant and phosphite to maintain the color; tin mercaptan stabilizers, which have low lightfastness, should be reinforced with these additives. The output of the line depends primarily on the apparent density of the mixture —bulk density—: the more mass the spindle carries per revolution, the more kilograms per hour come out of the die. The K value The resin's properties also influence something else: a higher K value (higher molecular weight) makes the resin more difficult to fuse, even though it provides better mechanical properties. And the burden which is added to the formula modifies the apparent density and, with it, the output of the profile. Recommendation: When changing resins or adjusting the loading level, the entire package must be checked; our process aids allow you to lower the melting temperature, reduce downtime, and improve output. Recommendation: It usually requires adjusting the extrusion temperature to lower the dough temperature and reinforcing it with special lubricants; it's also advisable to check the cooling tank. We'll help you determine the adjustment.
If the correct fusion is not achieved or there is insufficient impact resistance in the co-extrusion, the hose leaks —typically when stepped on, when a vehicle drives over it, or when it is stored in a warehouse—. Recommendation: We work on the fusion and reinforce the impact resistance of the helical section; we help you define the system (including grades with FDA approval for water).
Recommendation: If the problem stems from a lack of cohesion/melt strength, the solution is a process aid, not more lubricant (which pushes in the opposite direction). We'll help you determine which one you're lacking.
Recommendation: The impact depends not only on the dosage, but also on the degree of gelation, the melt temperature, and the resin; it's advisable to review the entire process, not just the pH. Contact us for a diagnosis.
Calcium carbonate, at the typical load levels of the rigid profile, tends to shift the profile's tone towards yellow. Increasing the titanium dioxide alone does not correct this: it increases opacity, but does not eliminate the yellow tint.
