Epoxidized Soybean Oil (ESBO)

General Description

The epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) is a yellow liquid for PVC that serves as co-stabilizer. It has a synergistic effect when used in conjunction with other thermal stabilizers, which means it increases stability before reaching degradation. It has good compatibility which helps hot-melt processing. It also acts as secondary plasticizer because it increases PVC flexibility.

It has a certain smell but this is not normally a problem for the manufacturer. It also has FDA approval for use in indirect food contact as it is considered a non-toxic material. It has good polarity with PVC up to a certain point, because in large quantities it can generate migration

It is recommended to use with metal salt stabilizers such as Barium Zinc and Calcium Zinc.

Our high-quality grades contain optimal oxirane content and low iodine levels, resulting in high compatibility with PVC and low migration.

The epoxidized soybean oil is normally used for the production of food film as it provides great elongation and stickiness propierties.

It is usually added at the beginning of the PVC mixing process to avoid other materials intervening in its absorption.
