Development / Applications
PVC K71 resin is a K=71 micro-suspension resin for transparent topcoats, floor wear layers, and synthetic leather topcoats. It is used to produce plastisol or pastes that exhibit low viscosity at low shear rates and slight expansion at high shear rates in formulations with low to medium plasticizer dosages (40–60 phr). Plastisol made from this polymer offers a high-clarity, high-gloss surface finish, low water absorption, good electrical resistance, good air release, and a low gel temperature. It also exhibits good thermal stability and lightfastness when used with various heat stabilizers, as well as good mechanical properties. When left to stand or with a long shelf life, its viscosity increase over time is low, as is its tendency to settle. These plastisols are suitable for solid spread coatings, especially transparent layers with low plasticizer content and where high mechanical properties are required. Due to their low viscosity, they are ideal for all types of coatings; these plastisols can be applied directly or during the spread transfer coating process, which includes drum gelation. This resin is also suitable for rotomolding, dip molding, or pour molding. The main applications are spreadable coatings with low plasticizer content, wall coverings, synthetic leather, and coated fabrics. The rotomolding process is used to produce boots, shoes, car armrests, and interior parts for motor vehicles.
