Zinc pyrithione (1-hydroxypyridine-2-thione zinc) is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent in powder form, for incorporation into thermoplastic resins. It inhibits bacteria, fungi, mold, and algae, preventing unpleasant odors and degradation by microorganisms in parts with constant exposure to moisture. In PVC, it is used in flexible sanitary profiles—drain covers, drain covers, and sink traps—seals, weatherstripping, bath mats and accessories, as well as in tarpaulins, coatings, and bath and pool toys.
