The theory explains that the plasticizer positions itself between PVC particles to form a bridge that allows molecular mobility; the greater the amount of plasticizer, the higher the flexibility achieved.<\/p>\n<p>This hardness is in turn controlled by a Shore A measurement scale (for flexible products) and a Shore D scale (for rigid products) using a durometer; the Shore A scale reaches a maximum of 95 points before we prefer to refer to a Shore D scale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Due to their excellent polarity with the <strong>polyvinyl chloride (PVC)<\/strong> molecule, both <strong>DOTP<\/strong> and <strong>DOP<\/strong> can alter the softening temperature of <strong>PVC<\/strong>, which is normally around 86\u00b0C in a rigid product. As the amount of <a href=\"https:\/\/chemicaladditives.com.mx\/en\/plastificantes-para-pvc\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>PVC plasticizer<\/strong><\/a> in a formulation is increased, the material transitions from rigid to semi-rigid, and eventually to fully flexible, significantly lowering the softening temperature of the PVC in question.\n<img class=\"size-full wp-image-2063 alignright\" title=\"PVC plasticizer 1\" src=\"https:\/\/chemicaladditives.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/p2.png\" alt=\"PVC plasticizer\" width=\"212\" height=\"127\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">It is important to note that, as with any additive, <strong>PVC<\/strong> has a limit to the amount of plasticizer it can accept before issues such as exudation or processing problems arise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Similarly, to achieve excellent processing results with plasticized <strong>PVC<\/strong>, the key is its addition during a high-speed mixing process that generates significant shear, thereby increasing the temperature of the resin. This allows the resin particles to expand, resembling a sponge, enabling them to absorb the <strong>PVC plasticizers<\/strong> and other additives the formulator wishes to include.<\/p>\n<p>Failure to follow a gradual addition process, controlling mixing temperatures and order of addition of\u00a0<strong>PVC additives,<\/strong>\u00a0This can cause various agglomeration and encapsulation problems, which in turn will result in surface defects in the final product. For example, different quantities will be required to achieve a Shore A 65 hardness depending on the plasticizer used, whether <strong>DOP, DOTP, DINP<\/strong>, etc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">It is commonly believed that a <strong>PVC plasticizer<\/strong> only provides flexibility to the material, which is a misconception. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/chemicaladditives.com.mx\/en\/plastificantes-para-pvc\/\" target=\"_self\">PVC plasticizers<\/a><\/strong> can also affect chemical extraction resistance, low-temperature performance, electrical properties, lubrication during processing, and more. It is important to use the grade that best suits your final product and production process.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Plasticizer for PVC: DOTP vs DOP<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>El DOP (di-octil ftalato o DEHP) est\u00e1 clasificado en Europa como sustancia extremadamente preocupante (SVHC bajo REACH) por su clasificaci\u00f3n como reprot\u00f3xico categor\u00eda 1B, y se encuentra listado en la Prop 65 de California.
